Speech Therapy

Objective

The main work of the speech therapy unit is to assist students with communication disabilities in developing suitable communication modes, enabling them to communicate more effectively with others in daily life and promoting holistic education. The four speech therapists at our school work closely with different school professions and parents to deepen their understanding and facilitating skills for students with language disabilities.

Scope of Service

ST Unit supports students with varying degrees of communication disabilities through a “Three-Tier Support Model,” which includes:

Assessment

  • Evaluating students’ speech abilities and the impact of their issues on communication, learning, and social interactions.

Therapy

  • Customizing individual or group training in language, articulation, oral motor ability, and/or social skills for students.
  • Inviting parents to participate in training, while maintaining communication through meetings, home visits, phone calls, and speech therapy homework to provide families with professional advice on training and communication skills, assisting students in flexibly applying relevant language skills in school and daily life environment.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the English subject to teach phonics and develop reading curricula, integrating language strategies with teaching elements into classroom learning.
  • Work with the Career Planning Section to conduct student interview training, host interview seminars, and participate in creating training materials for workplace interactions.
  • Collaborate with the Social Adaptation Group to participate in community adaptation group training

Provide professional advice to school staff, enabling them to offer appropriate support to students in various contexts, achieving a school-wide participation effect.

Home-School Collaboration and Professional Development

  • Regularly hold workshops for parents and staff to enhance language training skills.

Participate in the Hong Chi School Speech Therapists Group, organizing professional sharing sessions and creating communication training tools to promote professional exchange and public education.
